If you know you have a skunk on the premises
there are some things you can do
to discourage him living there.
It can be as simple as putting down some wire
or even wetting the area where the skunk is living
or the skunk may have to be trapped
and removed from the area.
Skunks can be trapped with various baits:
sardines, cat food works real well.
You can also use peanut butter, table scraps.
When trapping skunks, it’s really no different
than trapping raccoons or groundhogs,
but there are certain precautions that need to be taken
when removing these from the premises.
And if you would get a skunk in a trap
such as an open trap, they can safely be removed.
What I would recommend doing is approaching the skunk
with either a tarp or a blanket
held up in front of you as you walk toward the trap.
Slowly, gently walk toward the trap.
Watch the body language of the skunk as you’re approaching.
If he feels calm and not threatened,
you can walk right up to him,
drape the tarp or the blanket over the trap.
Then pick the trap up, move it to an open pickup bed
and either transport the skunk or dispatching at that time.
