Hi, I’m Hannah and I’m a History student at the University of Birmingham. Tonight I’m
at the Hare & Hounds for their regular night Hot Club de Swing, which is organised by the
band Electro Swing Circus, who are actually University of Birmingham graduates.
When you first get to Birmingham, it may not be completely obvious where all the exciting
nights are, but just scratch under the surface and you’ll find a whole host of incredible
bands in great locations. Tonight promises to be a carnival of gypsy punk, electro swing
and amazing circus performers. Dress code is 1900 to 1949 so let’s step back in time
and see the travelling show.
This is Johnny Kowalski and The Sexy Weirdos and I’m having the best time ever! It’s
so good!
There are loads of great places in Birmingham to see amazing live music. The O2 and HMV
Institute have an amazing selection of mainstream music to obscure bands. Tonight, the fantastic
Alt-J are playing.
There are venues to cater to all tastes in music. The LG Arena hosts some of the biggest
names around. The Jam House is infamous for swing and blues, PST for its reggae, and the
Wagon & Horses for its punk.
There’s so much here in Birmingham that you’ll never stop discovering new bands,
venues and great music.
