Woman: WHEN I WAS LITTLE,
ALL I WANTED TO BE WAS A FIREFIGHTER.
IT MEANT MORE TO ME THAN ANYTHING IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
I WANTED TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE FROM FIRE.
I'M 28 NOW AND A PROJECT MANAGER,
AND I FIGHT FIRES EVERY DAY
BY MAKING SURE THEY NEVER START.
I INSTALLED SMOKE ALARMS ON EVERY LEVEL OF OUR HOME
AND INSIDE EVERY BEDROOM,
AND I TEST THEM ONCE A MONTH TO MAKE SURE THEY WORK.
I'M CAREFUL IN THE KITCHEN AND KEEP AN EYE ON WHAT I FRY
TO PREVENT COOKING FIRES.
MOST IMPORTANTLY,
I WANT TO KEEP MY DAUGHTER SAFE FROM FIRE AND BURNS.
I MAKE SURE SHE'S AT LEAST 3 FEET AWAY
FROM THE STOVE OR GRILL WHEN I'M COOKING.
AND I TAUGHT HER TO TELL ME
IF SHE EVER SEES MATCHES OR A LIGHTER
SO I CAN PUT THEM IN A SAFE PLACE.
SHE'S 4 NOW, AND SHE SAYS SHE WANTS TO BE A FIREFIGHTER, TOO.
I TELL HER, "YOU CAN BE, HONEY. YOU CAN BE."
