donations and thank you so much for your support and contribution Austin Speech Labs is a non profit organization. Our goal is basically to help stroke survivors get their speech, language, and cognitive skills back so they can re engage back into their social and professional lives. You take for granted that you can talk. You can take for granted that you can say what you feel, what you desire, for anything from what you want to eat to how you're feeling that day. Just these little things that don't sound like a lot, and all that is possible with Austin speech labs (Eric's first session at ASL) that's right, (Shilpa Speaking) that's right, you practice it, good. that is a bus Bus (Eric tries to speak ) (Shilpa) oh you practiced? (Richard Alexander) I couldn't speak, I couldn't say my kid's names, for example. I knew who they were, but I couldn't say their names. I have it in my mind what I'm trying to say but it doesn't come out. Eric therapy session after 6 months (Shilpa) how are you? (Eric) I am good. Shilpa) Ok, I'm going to have you read some words ok? (Eric) Help, very good, perfect. help. I love you. ...nice. (Rebecca) (volunteer) its a unique group of people, their people who wouldnt continue their therapy after the basic stuff, after the stroke and it's people who are highly motivated. So I think at speech labs they're getting the people who normally slip through the cracks, they're really doing a service to people who are motivated but lack the opportunity to continue their therapy and the benefits that go with it (Lacy's first session at ASL) Uh, my stroke, the same time you did and I was in school before (Shilpa) because now stroke is just not in the elderly age group, it affects the younger population, they're two different groups, they're two different needs, and we're glad to offer therapy for those different groups (Lacy) they did such a great job on me that now I am a volunteer because I want to help other people that have the same challenges as I did and still do from time to time and also I want to help the people that helped me, that really gave my life back to me
