when my father was what was in office he would say
uh...
he had the ability and to to to talk with people
all different types of people which i like i have that capabilities well
his probably get a better strength in being able to
uh...
reach across the the isle of differences and and and get in fall of people and
uh... tried to
uh...
get them to greedy to his point of view
now sometimes that was
a detriment to him because he was at our stubborn
he wouldn't give up
and he was in fact if i get to some point reid is keeping a dead horse in a wooden anyone
walk away from it
uh... i'd like to walk away from things
that's it did for the help
some some waiver for somewhere a little different
cholerae what he is the most comfortable with life
all i'll recover y from in all aspects of all that is specifically what's the what's
how do you relax how do you how do you get away from salutes over the stresses obviously
comes from god
well i probably did you more about whether of
victorian i
of we'd go out to dinner quite a bit and we spent a lot of time just talking and
uh... just usually that haven't talked about the day's events and that's a relaxation for
me
we do have a have a place to go to up on ground like
uh... and so that's that's always enjoyable
traveling is always terrific we go to all you football game trouble you
uh... football game season tickets we go all the games and
and uh... that's a great way to get away and just have a couple
couple days are a couple hours of uh...
scream for the home came collateralized
they travel somewhat with the with the job done and your your your marketing tool so
will hold little
welcome trips if you had
mostly the wash in d_c_ uh... or uh...
peter dallas
houston but most of its wash in bc annette
really more of
uh...
reacquaint myself with our delegation let them know what one or
uh... interests are uh... from the city of tulsa but also i guess importantly regroup
really more important in some cases educate equated with the
staff members a higher level staff members of the department of transportation energy
braunwynn
viral protection agency
uh... agencies that have a lot of influence on what happens in tulsa
and getting to know people that are decision makers
those that recommend things to the congress uh...
uh... we're you know they're very very well
most important issue today
i'm sure everybody will greets jobs creating jobs how bring jobs to tops and what kind
of jobs can we bring to tops
well we have to have a strong fire meant that supports and promotes job creation economic
development
uh... that's why i have such a strong team uh... around as that uh... that deals with
energy
an aerospace
uh... in my view those are the two groups that that uh... that we have already here
in tulsa very poor it's been a very strong
commitment presidents in both aerospace in energy
so we need of uh... in my view uh... work upon those those first ranks
uh... no reason to recreate the
the uh... the uh... whale because we are to have to pre strong wheels right there
believed aerospace has been strong force i think it's it's a bit of the gods and uh...
for the economy and also the energy has been
has energy played out really in tulsa and oklahoma we were known as the oil capital
of the world little a lot of of the action obviously is going to middle east and down
into the texas area
uh... worse the future of energy issit it is in all aspects of energy but it's also
the future is in
traditional
energy loyal and natural gas
no matter how well the alternative energy ideas sold
uh... it still not necessarily affordable
uh... there's no market for the yet uh... in uh... in many many ways
and so what are we going to do figures from this point in time
to that point future when the alternate energies are
marketable usable in affordable
and that and answer that one his coil
and natural gas they have to be better bridge feel
from now until those points in the future that is described
oil natural gas uh... isn't
tosses d_n_a_ it's in our history
we had besides having their manufacturing side well-represented throughout that though
the those aspects of the energy uh... of the uh... energy sector we also have a strong
strong world known
worldwide known commitment to the education side
of energy
i believe that salsa can be comment is
the education capital
of this country and so far as energy education is concerned
and also the manufacturing capital it certainly the uh... the capital of of energy
for the for the ability to
but the other deals
all that together in my view we can stay claim to being
the overall energy capital this country
foreigners she manufacturing
education
and uh... the usefulness of the product lesson texans would disagree with you early on that
point how do you how do you fight that argument
with another very articulate person
coming into a new sell the idea
of well let's not do this in oklahoma let's not do this in text in intelsat but let's
move
with that uh... it you can convince to texas
all the components of what we just uh... describe are in texas no question about it
but it's not all under one roof so to speak in that roof being called focal homa
here in tulsa oklahoma we are
uh... very committed in and we have a history of manufacturing all the components of of
of of energy
we have an s educational institutions you worship ulcer
movers oklahoma knock on the state university all of whom are very very active
especially to in the in the hiring of education of for engineering geology geophysicist almost
different things involved with energy creation
uh... we have companies that are here that have tremendous money history
arquette we've been here for a hundred years for example and we're not alone
uh... were small
but we're active
and uh... uh... but it's a good example of of on how the companies are able to come up
with the entrepreneurial spirit the pulses so well known for
tulsa really
has its roots in the private sector
password godalming started here in tulsa and that that entrepreneurial capability dealmaking
that we've done throughout the city for all over history it permeates it right here in
tulsa and so we have all those components together
that's why i think i really am not stretch in it when i say that
the second century energy program that we're promoting in tulsa really does stake a claim
that we are the capital that you're here also the time
uh... a lot of the future into the fact that there's gotta be a transition work eventually
uh... century from our whenever we'll be looking at alternative
opt-in salsa mailto oklahoma position
uh... you know such a way that we can benefit by that transition phase
it is not that difficult in my view to transition from a traditional forms of energy in the
alternative forms because a concept for the same
no we understand people we in the antonin ingi industry
are very familiar with the entire concept of energy about how
necessary tis for our economic well-being uh... for our strategic best interest for
national security we all are stand at a very well
and weather comes in a form of oil or natural gas
or whether comes in the form of electricity being created by some lighter by wind
or buy
some magic potion that has yet to be developed
uh... the concept of energy is is common
throughout that whole discussion
and we in tulsa
we can educate for all these different and we are educating right now
for all those different aspects of energy
were not their traditional
uh... alternative in yet to be discovered
universit also has a very very aggressive very well-known program
of managing
uh... and teaching the various forms of energy and how that can be marketed discovered utilized
in and and uh... and business-wise created
to lead you to make it be a teacher right now to give a great
grade salsa great oklahoma in terms of we're we're positioned for the future in the energy
equation
compared to other states
i'd say a plus
we really are because geographically right center
rightness early company
we understand the whole concept of of energy very well we have all the tools at our disposal
or need to do is just put 'em all the other and marketed that's all we have to do speaking
in marketing uh... that there's a river
a little ways down the road here
what can be done to develop that river to make salsa more attractive
well we're starting that process right now where
uh... that this idiot also owns crumble and uh... on uh... both sides are ever but a special
a west side of the river near the twenty first street bridge
we have a lot hundred acres
and we're going to uh... put that out to the
to the public
uh... too
i give us a maiden proposals on upon what
the private sector thinks that can be
done to that landed nor in to make it
uh... usable and saleable and uh...
uh... put in a position where
if you'd be used for residential purposes or
uh... commercial retail whatever that might be
uh... but weren't going to splurge karanam process now and i think that the that are
f p the request for proposal will prob probably be
disseminated to the public next month
the oklahoma city has got the brutality they've got the canals and things of the arkansas
rivers is something that godly
army corps of engineers with creative force how do you water there
well it it is funny the the uh... uh... dam upstream rather keystone damn uh... they've
they seem to open at night you know they were literally sees a blessed selasa moves out
so hopefully we can
change things around all day work or engineers
but one week a compulsion is going to be
uh... the installation of two new dams and the
uh... rebuilding of our current damn nikhil bit taller and and uh... and and water making
a lake much larger
i think those those things happening are very very important to the sale building and and
and usability of of of the river but that that's coming
in in terms of the arkansas reverted other elements was the most in
the the important thing you can do to make
tolson more attractive
businesses looking to locate here
well we certainly have to have a very strong business climate in as far as a river goes
i think that uh... if if we can show that we have the capabilities of city and as a
community
to utilize their resource very well and you should wear
it is in our collective best interests
where it does create a uh...
abuzz
if you just go over to the twenty first street bridge in the west side and look at cross
the river and uh... look at the skyline and the hills it's a beautiful view and that to
me
is what one or more
prime sponsor up and down the river
is uh... the west west bank the river
once that is completed one sup is put into place everything else will fall into place
so well
uh... all up and down the river in a in a good responsible way that we can utilize that
resource start or
to our best interest uh... will create uh... residential opportunities people live there
work there office buildings will be recreated
retail establishments that uh...
will create sales sales taxes which is always good for a
for the city's coffers
so a lot of good things can happen with that rare when you get out in public what's the
most common questions
um...
how you doing
hurley s they've days but many people think that i'm uh... this kind of beat up an entire
but uh... i'm really not uh... i really am invigorated by
the responsibilty and and the real honor that i have a being mayor
error and represent in the city uh...
it really has a terrific bank that i'm uh... experiencing right now victorian i my wife
mark spiritually
in one year into this for your job
and uh... i really really enjoy it
which is closing out you talk a little bit about education universally of of tulsa community
college how does that fit into the equation for the future of tulsa
well uh... tulsa state college is a great example
uh... of of of what the advances are in the city of tulsa
yet any other educational institutions get along so very well they're still competitiveness
between all of them
uh...
your seattle so you'll wish you uh... dcc
they all work together and they all are not at all and verse that if
he uses a well there's some great engineers
uh... students that were that were blown been approached by that they need to go to pc cedar
to first learned learn the ropes
wilson agar pity cc begin unrolled and uh... learned do you agree to a city cc can take
and vice versa and pcc presents a in very very quality
student to the uh...
educated to the higher end uh... community to to you a legal you know issue
and they've taken just like that
so the the ability for everybody to work
together to get along and to work for the common good what's best for the common good
pcc it has exemplified that said today that they opened up
their craig reinstitution of real problem
bear to get with jim thanks so much for a visit
thank you for joining pieces
