The creation of a piece of jewellery in the Tournaire workshops (Montbrison, France)
Part 1: design and preparation of waxes Part 2: Smelting Part 3: Preparation and polishing Part 4: Selecting the stones Part 5: Setting Part 6: Finishing
The precious metal is heated in order to reach its melting point. It then changes into liquid form.
The smelting cylinder is additionally pre-heated in order to avoid any thermal shock when pouring in the smelted metal.
When the smelted metal is poured, the metal takes the shape of the item to be cast within the cylinder.
After cooling, the cylinder is then broken in order to release the tree structure of the smelted metal.
The mould is then removed using a high-pressure water jet.
