There are some venues in İstanbul where taverns have become much busier.
Why we chose Beylerbeyi is because Beylerbeyi does not have a traditional tavern.
İnciraltı has a classic tavern menu. However, quite a lot of what is no longer made
on a classic tavern menu continues to be made at İnciraltı.
From 30 samples of side dishes, about 10-15 are taken from either palace cuisine or
past written traditional recipe books and
side dishes that were made appropriately for that time.
We serve Kaya Koruğu salad with roasted pepper, garlic, walnut and brynza cheese.
Fish Dolma is dried tomato stuffed with sea bass fish.
Our Turkish breakfast is served as a setting for two people.
Again, an old Istanbul tradition... Coffee cannot be served without liquor.
In the past in Istanbul, people would make their liquor in their homes.
This is a very old custom... To prevent the glass from getting warm
the women would knit a small case from lace like this.
The men would then take this from their pocket, place the glass within it and drink their raki.
The name 'İnciraltı' came from the fig tree in this garden.
Right now we have its youngling, a small sapling...
We hope that in a few years it too will become a beautiful fig tree.
