Are Whirlpool washing machines any good?
Whirlpool washers are in the middle in terms of repairs, with about 12% needing repairs
per year.
In contrast to what?
The rate was 15% for GE washers. They were the worst according to the 2014 Consumer Reports.
Which Whirlpool washing machine should I get? I think there are several competing models.
The Whirlpool Duet washer is one of the best front loaders.
How good is it?
It rates second only to the Maytag Maxima. Well, third and fourth.
How on Earth does that happen?
The Duet $1500 model is rated third by Consumer Reports, while the $1100 Duet version is rated
fourth.
Ah, each version is rated separately.
The irony is that the cheaper Duet is arguably better, since it has a shorter cycle time.
All you lose or gain is a little more vibration.
That’s directly correlated to noise. And I’m thinking of getting a top loader, not
a front loader.
Whirlpool doesn’t do nearly as good when it comes to top loaders. The best Whirlpool
Vantage is rated sixteenth.
How much does the Vantage cost?
The best rated Whirlpool Vantage washer is $1700.
That’s not too bad.
The Vantage was the worst rated top loader washer in the 2014 Consumer Reports. And it
is more expensive than the Duet.
What do you think of the Whirlpool Cabrio combined washer-dryer set?
The Cabrio dryers get good reviews, but the washers have all kinds of problems.
I can imagine some people complain about their size. Then again, that makes it more affordable.
You pay as much or more for the Cabrio washer as you do a full size Whirlpool washer, while
the Cabrio doesn’t wash your clothes worth a flip.
It ought to spin the clothes at least once.
They have so much trouble with balancing the load that it often fails once it turns a few
time.
Talk about being taken for a ride. Or not.
If you want to buy a Whirlpool washer, don’t buy a Cabrio.
