The year out group came into existance in 1997 98

who went who formally asked to defer their gap year in 1997 went to university in 1998 and
did not have to pay tuition fees at about the same time their was an instance involving a
young wooman called louise woodward who was an au pair in the united states who got involved
and accused of murdering a child in her care and the sugestion was that the year out providers
who had come together for this lobbying should actually stay together and work to develop a code
of practice for organisations that operated within the year out or gap year sector
