Hello Patacoins' friends, and welcome to a new episode.
Today we have a special chapter, cause it's exclusively dedicated
to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the newest game of the Metal Gear saga.
Which in theory, is the last piece of the puzzle of Big Boss' story,
who now leads a new group of mercenaries, the Diamond Dogs.
In this new group, Big Boss joins forces with Miller and Ocelot
to avenge the destruction of the Militaires Sans Frontières.
Gameplay wise, the game is perfect.
The best thing is the big freedom you have.
Missions don't hold your hand. They just say
you gotta go here and rescue this prisoner, or you must clear an objective.
It's up to you how to do it.
You can run in with a bazooka, or use darts, disguises,
smoke bombs, and there's also the box.
Boxes are super fun and don't follow logic. You can shoot and hide back inside,
mail yourself, or you can use posters to fool your enemies.
But weapon physics is very realistic, bullets even fall down with gravity.
So if you wanna shoot someone who is very far away, you gotta aim higher.
The game mechanics always challenge your intelligence.
Depending on how you do things, a mission can last 5 or 40 minutes.
Enemies adapt to your behavior. If you usually go for headshots,
soldiers will start wearing helmets; suggesting you should try a different strategy.
Eventually you can send your army to steal helmets, lanterns, or cameras.
All this has a real impact in the economy and the dynamics of the game.
You can also use the Fulton to kidnap soldiers, brainwash them,
and recruit them for your army.
Sometimes you must recruit medics or interpreters,
in case you have to interrogate an enemy.
An important part of the game is getting soldiers and resources
to rebuild your base.
If you wanna have the best army and the best weapons,
you must commit yourself to obtain materials.
Una metra no cabe en un tontón (Panamanian Meme, Google it!)
You can even "collect"
-you're actually stealing them from their environment-
animals, to build a zoo.
Stealing is pretty addictive.
Other players can try to invade your base, so you gotta have soldiers to protect it,
or the game will alert you, and you can go defend it yourself.
At the end you can even have multiple bases.
All of this sounds a bit overwhelming,
but the game shows you step by step what you can do.
So a bunch of things are blocked at the beginning, for a good reason.
You have multiple companions to take with you on missions:
D-Dog, D-Horse, D-Walker, and Quiet.
Each companion as a closeness system.
The more time they spend with you, they gain attributes and abilities.
D-Dog helps you find soldiers that you can't see.
For example, if there's a sandstorm, or at night.
D-Horse allows you to move faster between bases.
D-Walker brings attack and defense, but you can also use it to be sneaky.
And Quiet is sort of a sniper bodyguard,
who can kill soldiers that detect you.
The fact that Quiet is almost naked is "justified" by the story,
but it's prety clear that they sexualize her,
specially in the camera angles.
Her character is pretty, but Metal Gear is a saga
with strong female leads, that doesn't need... this.
The game has hard fights, but not boss fights per se.
That's a bit sad, because they left us without epic fights
like the ones with Psycho Mantis and The End.
Metal Gear Solid V offers something different: moments.
Each player defines how he'll end a mission.
And at the end you'll remember that moment
where you stopped a tank at the very last second.
But there are no unforgettable enemies.
The story is very diluted, and doesn't add much to the Metal Gear canon.
If it didn't exist, you wouldn't miss a lot from the saga.
But the few story scenes are very cinematographic, very Kojima.
With plot twists that can never miss.
The music is good but scarce. The soundtrack moves to second place,
and it's mostly used to accompany the action in the missions.
There are in-game collectible cassettes
that have story audios, and you can also use them
to change the music in the helicopter, or when you're strolling.
The game has a library of popular songs,
but if you're on PC you can use your own mp3, and listen to Wendy Sulca.
Metal Gear Solid V is a game with incredible attention to detail,
even the weather can change the way you play.
It has the best gameplay we've seen in a long time,
graphics are excellent, and you can notice Kojima's direction
from beginning to end.
But storywise, they couldn't think out of the box.
And that's why we give it 4.5 out of 5 Patacoins.
That was it for today's episode, I hope you liked it.
