So , exactly what are you doing right now? Right now I am offering feeds to the birds
as you can see and this is my small project as you can see .As you can see, here there
are the broilers , that is why they are white and here you can see layers and these ones
are the dual purpose breeds, they are cross breeds of both the indigenous and the exotics.
So, exactly about how many birds do you have here because this seems to be a small space.
Uh well.. How did you do this?
This is great. Yea , well everyone asked me about that . Uh
, here there are about actually 250 birds and what I did was to find someone who helped
me to put up the structure . Actually, I provided him with a plan of how to build it . So he
partitioned it into three parts, this part is for the layers and as you can see these
are the layers, then down here there are the dual purpose breeds and these ones are the
broilers. The layers are meant for egg laying and the broilers are for meat production and
these ones are for both meat and egg production. Ok, that is a very good idea. So what do you
do because I know there are many diseases that these birds can catch. So how do you
avoid that? Well, I do vaccinate and right after I had
brought them here, that is something like one month ago I did vaccinate them . The first
vaccination was against malaria and that is the most disastrous disease that attacks the
birds then from there I vaccinated against fowl typhoid and then there after again I
did vaccinate against malex then typhoid and from there. Those are the three diseases that
are catastrophic to the birds and right now as you can see they are all healthy and there
is nothing like disease or anything like. How soon do you expect to start collecting
the eggs like you talked about? Well as you can see as I told you they are
still one month old, but like in 3 more months from now they will be giving me the eggs and
just as you can see these birds, they have really grown so fast because of these feeds
that I give them. Now this is the mash and in the mash I mix uhh, fish meal , I put sunflower,
I put cotton meal then I also put premix and that is why you see they are growing at a
tremendous rate and you will be really surprised because right now people are coming and buying
them , I mean some of these guys who do roast chicken they are already roasting them and
yet they are just one month old so in about 3 months from now they will really be so big
because they can weigh up tp something like 6kgs at about 3 months from now.
Ok, oh that is very fascinating and uh this is really a good idea, a good business idea.
So about approximately how much money do you hope to make out of this project? About how
much profit as considering how much you invested in the project?
Umm, just roughly estimate how much you expect to earn out of this business as a profit?
Umm, well umm approximately umm, it will be something like uhm 400 dollars to be exact.
Ok. Yea approximately. So i think you can see
the profit margin .
Ok. And their feeds are not that expensive.
Ok Do you have any future plans of uhh sort of
developing this project beyond this capacity? Well, definitely yea, because uhm, as you
can see these birds are growing at a tremendous rate. So I need actually more space. So what
I have put in mind is may be cutting through this wall here and making an extension so
that there will be more space for the layers and then the cross breeds.
Ok That is a very impressive idea. I was told
that right now you are pursuing education in business administration . where do you
go to university? Uhmm, I go to Thailand. Shinawatra University.
Oh you are in Thailand, Shinawatra. That is a very impressive. So how do you hope that
umm, the course that you are doing at Shinawatra is going to help you become a better business
professional? Uh, probably in Uganda or around the globe?
Uh, well first and foremost there are so many business terms they teach us like saving , how
you can minimize the cost and actually that knowledge I have acquired right from the first
semester is something that am really applying here . Uh right now , umm I tried to cut off
the costs like purchasing these uhh, meal, chicken meal from places that sell it much
cheaper than some and in so doing that is why you see the profit margin is so tremendous.
I know if I bought this from a place which is far more expensive ,, then definitely I
would realize a very small profit margin and the other thing is this structure as you can
see is really not that that expensive because the wood I just cut it from the nearby woodland
just there and again I didn't incur much money. SO what i did was set up this structure and
it really didn't cost me something more than 30 dollars.
Ok so i see that already you being in first year at Shinawatra you already learning umm,
many different terms like how you can minimize costs, how you can make savings. So am very
optimistic about umm, the future of the business , umm the corporate world in Uganda and the
globe at large and we expect that you are going to be a great professional and we cordially
thank Shinawatra University for the contribution they are doing for the Ugandan business. Exactly.
Thank you very much for this brief interview and we hope to interview you some other time.
Yea, so these are the breeds and as you can see am going to give them some mash . Well
i just got up this morning and they are pretty ravenous , that is why they keep everywhere
but this shouldn't be a problem. Welll, thank you, see you some other time.
