All news all day news radio 1080 KRLD. A lot of rain a lot of wind a lot of hail last night,
it was loud, the hail was big, it was very very intense. That means a lot of damage today.
So how do you make sure you're not getting scammed when you find someone to fix your
roof? Bill Ciccolella joins us now to talk about it. And I know I just butchered your
name, so why don't you fix it for me... That's OK, it's Billy Ciccolella. I did say it correctly,
great OK, so, how do you avoid scams when you're looking for somebody to help you with
your roof, where do you begin? The first thing you want to do is make sure you find somebody
reputable to inspect your roof. Umm, you can do that a couple of difference ways. Either
contact your insurance carrier and see if they have a contractor that they have a relationship
with to contact and get your roof inspected... You can go to Google, everybody's on line
now, you want to make sure you look at their reviews. The top thing you want to look for
when you're looking for a contractor to do any roofing work for you is that they are
insured. OK, one thing that people will always see when something like this happens is there
will be people driving by and leaving business cards on your front door, how often is that
legitimate? Well again, you want to verify who the company is, you want to do a little
research on your end make sure number one that they're local, how long they have been
in business, if they're registered with the Better Business Bureau, things of that nature.
I've heard some complaints about the Better Business Bureau and some wonderful things
obviously it's the go to place for businesses like that, but is that a good source or do
you really need to double double check any business that may be registered with the BBB?
We always recommend that you double double check any business that's recommended by the
Better Business Bureau, but that's the first place to look at a business and check out
their stability. Last thirty seconds that we have with you, what should we do as far
as payments, do you put so much down and then so much when they finish the job? How should
you do this? Well, any reputable contractor, reputable contractor that you work with is
never going to accept any money up front, you always pay once the roof is done and you
have looked at it and your contractor and you are proud of the work and you're satisfied,
that's when you should submit your check. Alright, well we thank you so much for sharing
your expertise with us, that is Billy Ciccolella joining us live. Don't get scammed.
