Hi, I'm Mark Blocker from Expert Village. In this segment we're going to cover proper
cleaning and maintenance of the lens for a lighting system, interior rear door, the light
bulb itself and the housing assembly. To clean it, once again, we're just going to use a
standard window cleaner. Spray a light coat on both sides, and then wipe it down thoroughly
with a good cloth rag, preferably something soft made of cotton. Once again, avoiding
paper or paper-towels because they can be abrasive and it will scratch or damage the
lens. Again, on the backside of the lens you'll find that it's grooved to add to its reflective
capabilities. Just get your fingernail, or something, and get it down there real good
with the cloth and clean the grooves out so it reflects as much light as possible. Now,
after cleaning this lens, I noticed it's got a nice big scratch, dull scratch, across the
face of it. This was probably done by somebody's shoe or something when they were getting in
the car. If you wanted to remove that for better appearances, it just looks nicer and
makes the car look newer, a little bit of wax or polishing compound. If you just apply
a little bit on a rag and just rub that, you can sort of buff those off, light scratches
in plastic off, if you will. So I'm just going to take a little bit of car polish, apply
a small amount to the tip of a rag, and then just kind of use a swirl pattern. I'm just
going to rub, and it will take about three of four minutes of just gently rubbing and
polishing that scratch area back and forth and back and forth. After a few minutes of
some rigorous polishing, just take a clean dry portion of your rag and wipe off any remaining
residue and you can see that just after a just a few short minutes there, I've removed
almost about seventy-five percent of the scratch. If I want to get that all the way out it's
just going to require a little bit more effort and a little bit more time. Another dose of
the polishing compound on there, and your finger with a rag, and you continue to polish,
you can probably work the vast majority or all that scratch out of the lens. Please watch
our next segment on cleaning your lens and bulb, part two.
