A U.S. Open streaming and viewing guide for Thursday The U.S. Open tees off Thursday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. He’s had three weeks to do little other than prepare for this championship. He’s among oddsmakers’ favorites. The USGA consistently sets up its courses to be among the most brutal tests in golf. Last year at Erin Hills was an exception. Brooks Koepka won with a score of 16-under over 72 holes, tied for the lowest figure to par ever in a U.S. Open. That won‘t’ happen at Shinnecock. This is the fifth time this Hamptons track has hosted the championship, and the last two winning scores there were even par (Corey Pavin in 1995) and 4-under (Retief Goosen in 2004). The fairways are wider now than they were then, and perhaps the course will play easier. But whoever wins this championship will probably have to grind to do it.
