Here we go with the strategy of the rules of the game following a suit and so forth.
Remember when you're playing online you never have to worry about not following suit. The
computer won't let you. If a club is led and you have a club in your hand other than the
left, because a spade would be a club, you absolutely have to follow suit. So you can't
lead out of turn. You can't renege or revoke. You have to follow the rules on the computer.
The computer will even keep the score for you. That's the beauty of going to these online
sites. All the works done for you, but you're in a live tournament now and that's going
to change the picture a little bit because you have to be alert. You have to pay attention.
Let's look at a typical hand. Here's an ace of clubs turned, he's got two clubs, but he
doesn't really have enough strength. He's not going to call with two weak trump like
that and there's no guarantee that one's even going to go through. Any time you have a double
side suit, you really are stretching the hope that you're going to get one of them, let
alone both and he's just too weak to call. He's not going to call. He's three times in
diamonds and he's not going to order up on just the second ranking trump and one off
face but he kind of likes that ace. He thinks that ace is the cat's whiskers so he goes
ahead and puts that in his hand and he says I'm naming clubs. Now this is a tough decision.
Here you have the, you have two of the top three trump and that's two tricks right there
and all your partner has to do is cough up the trick for you. Now which suit are you
going to cut? The purists will say bring the suit down to a two carded, two suited hand,
and I think that's the better strategy. Some people say no, don't throw away a king, you
might get the ten. I lean toward the two suited hand. I really do. My partner might be able
to cut this and if the opponents have the ace then I'm going to look not very good,
but of course if my partner has the ace then it doesn't matter, you'll give me a discard,
hopefully.
