Making Ceramic Bowls - Ceramic bowls - Preparing to trim

We have our set of cereal bowls here and the nest thing we're going to do is trim them; now we can usually tell with a small piece like this if they're ready to be trimmed simply because they will pop off the wheel given a little pressure, of not what we do is go back over to the wheel and put our wire underneath repeating the same process as we did before; moving it slowly and detaching the pot. O.k. so now we have the pot detached and I'm going to talk for moment about centering; we, it's nice to put a bat onto a wheel; they make different kind of centering bats, they make a different grip which will center the pot for you automatically. They also make bats with carpeting on them so that; so that the pot doesn't slide off and you don't need to secure it as much. We're just going to use a regular bat this time and I'm going to show you some little tips that will help you in centering. I like to take a pencil and simply draw some lines on my bat like so; now I'll show you why this is very handy now because we're going to flip this bowl over and put it onto this bat like so, and with the circles we can get an idea of where it needs to be before we start. And as you can see it's almost on center right there; sometimes you can get it on center just like that. However now we've put this bowl onto our bat and I'm now going to show you how, how to center the bowl onto the bat and we will do that next.
