Commuters have been complaining of queues on the Hagley Road heading towards Birmingham this morning after the signal timings were altered at Five Ways Island to help control traffic from the Belgrave Middleway. Traffic on the Hagley Road is said to be stretching back more than a mile to Manor Road. Traffic provider Inrix: “Long ong delays and queueing traffic for one mile due to traffic signal timings changed on A456 Hagley Road Inbound at A4540 (Five Ways Island). “Congestion to Manor Road. Travel time is 15 minutes. “The timings of the Five Ways lights have been altered to help moderate the flow of traffic heading down from Five Ways towards the roadworks area down at Belgrave Middleway.” One driver tweeted: “What in God’s name is happening on the Hagley Rd this morning ?? This is hell.” Another said: “Just heard on the radio that there are delays of half an hour but no explanation why. What the hell?! I hope you’re out of it soon!” Meanwhile, the Hagley Road was closed twice on Monday following two serious crashes. An air ambulance was scrambled, after a pedestrian was hit by a lorry at the Kings Head Pub junction, on Hagley Road, Bearwood, at 1.40pm. The victim, middle-aged man, suffered very significant injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance staff. He was immobilised before being anaesthetised by the doctor and was then taken on blue lights to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Chief Inspector Jack Hadley confirmed that the entire road was closed from Five Ways to the Plough and Harrow at approximately 7pm. He tweeted: “officers are now dealing with a second RTC on the Hagley Road. The entire road is closed from Five Ways to the Plough & Harrow PH. “Definitely completely avoid the area as the traffic is horrendous!!”
