Hi, I am Raadhika. Let's talk about stopping weight gain on a gluten free diet.
Have you asked yourself, "I'm on a gluten free diet,
so why am I fat?"
The dangers of gaining weight on a gluten free diet are very real.
This is because, unknowingly you end up consuming more oils, fats and carbs than you should.
Eating gluten free foods does not necessarily mean
you are on a low fat diet, or a healthier diet.
Some gluten free grains,
fruits and vegetables are high in carbohydrates and sugar which means the pounds will pile on.
White rice, cornflakes, baked potato, rice cakes and rice krispies are gluten free
but being high carb foods, they have a high glycemic index.
Mars bars have a lower glycemic index than a serving of wholemeal bread
Nutella and Snickers bars are low glycemic foods!
Watermelon, rock melon and just about all melons, have a high sugar content,
so eat them in moderation if you don't want to gain weight.
Foods to avoid on a gluten free diet,
are refined carbs,
processed foods and foods high in fat.
Snacks like potato chips and sweets made with white flour, like cakes, cookies
and fruit pies are refined carbs.
Processed foods are just about everything else,
from sausages, bacon, ham,
cheese spreads
the list is endless!
These are guilty of being really high in salt and fats and refined carbs. Your best bet would be a gluten free low carb diet.
Substitute with low carb foods like quinoa for white rice,
coconut flour for rice flour, lean meats and fish rich in omega 3 for heart healthy proteins.
Eat spinach, peppers, asparagus, salad and the occasional sweet potato as part of your meal.
Break the habit of buying pre-packaged gluten free meals in the name of convenience and shed the inconvenient pounds.
They are probably well over your daily requirement
of fats, sugar and salts anyway.
Keep these simple facts in mind, and you will be well on your way to reaching your ideal weight.
