This is a third generation A6, which has different names.
Typ 4F is the official Audi name.
C6 is another common name, referring to the C6 platform.
The car grew, which was usual at the time.
Longer, a longer wheel base and more space.
For the fans: this was the first Audi A6 with a single frame grille.
It made its debut on the A8 W12.
The MMI satnav infotainment system made its debut in the interior.
It's not just a satnav. You can play music and control the adaptive air suspension.
It's still a nice, spacious car. This S line has sporty handling.
It doesn't look dated, even though its successor is 3 years old now.
There was a facelift in 2008, when the RS6 was introduced.
It's on e of my favorites, with the biturbo V10 and corresponding fuel economy.
There were a lot of engines available,
ranging from a 2.0 4-cylinder 'til a 5.2 V10.
That was the S6; the RS6 had a 5.0 biturbo V10.
ENGINES gasoline
ENGINES diesel
AutoScout has 1,000 of this gen A6 online.
About a third has Quattro AWD, a feature for the bigger engines.
It was standard for the S6 and RS6, but Quattro was available for a V6 and up.
The diesel-gasoline ratio is 50:50.
Not many A6s have a manual gearbox, about 1/5.
If you don't want a rough A6, there's the raised A6 allroad
with body kit and standard AWD.
Prices start at 7,000 euros for an experienced car with high mileage.
It may have some problems, so better keep saving if you want this gen A6.
PRICES minimum, average, maximum
There's some things to watch out for.
The newer the 2.0 TDI, the better. But that's a budget issue as well.
With 2.0 TDI engines, check the oil pump drive shaft.
It wears, which means the engine doesn't get enough oil.
If you want to know what'll happens next,
grab two pieces of metal and rub them together.
See what that looks like after a while.
Not pretty, I can tell you.
Another POI for the older 2.0 TDI is rattling balance shafts. Not good.
Another issue for *** engines in general is the timing chain.
This goes for the 2.7 TDI, 3.0 TDI, 2.8 FSI, 3.2 FSI and 2.0 TFSI.
There's not enough tension on the timing chains,
which means a desynchronized engine. That's not good.
It's an expensive fix. You'll hear a rattling noise when starting.
It means you'll have to change it soon.
The Avant has a problem with the rear windshield wiper.
There is none.
The sprayer tube can clog up, or start leaking.
Especially in the older A6 Avant.
It may leak on the MMI computer, which causes problems.
Electronics and moisture isn't a good combo.
Another interesting issue is the fuel gauge, which stays at 0 after filling up.
It needs a software update, although people have spent a lot of money.
It looks to be a software problem. The needle won't move.
Not practical, unless you know how much you burn and when you filled up last.
This gen's A6 has an electronic parking brake, with a button.
It's been know it won't always let go.
You can drive, but the rear brakes will get hot and your mileage goes up.
That's not good.
Make sure the air suspension, when available, works well.
It was an expensive feature and expensive to fix.
If the car slants while parked, look into it.
This car got its license plate in 2012. I don't know what it was built.
2.0 TFSI with multitronic gearbox, a fair combo but not very fast.
This is a nice A6 with S line package and interior.
It looks cool.
