I am Yutaro, main guitarist of Fear From The Hate
I am Lidy, vocalist of Fear From The Hate
Presentation of the band
Lidy : At first our bassist and guitarist started a band in college, as an after-school activity, 3 years ago.
We just wanted to play in a band for fun.
At that time, members changed a lot of times
I joined the band 2 years ago
Finally the line-up was fixed in March, this year.
Yutaro : I joined the band last November
I was playing in a Metalcore band.
From that time I knew and helped Fear From The Hate.
About the band name
Lidy : We picked some words from Screamo and Emo bands that were famous at the time.
We decided the name together.
Evolution of your music
The original members played some straight music,
close to emo and screamo like Story of the Year
and when I joined the band, we changed to our actual Electro and Metalcore.
Your inspirations
Yutaro : There are so many bands ...
I like Metal music and as I am guitarist, there are several guitarists that I like,
such as John Petrucci
and that motivated me to start playing guitar.
Lidy : I like glam rock bands, like The Yellow Monkey ...
or also David Bowie
I was inspired by big rock stars.
The lyrics
70% of the lyrics are in English and 30% in Japanese.
But it is changing now
I will sing more and more in Japanese
The first EP and album were sung in English,
but starting on the new album, I am singing in Japanese.
Composition
It depends on each track, but we focus on the image made by each song
We mix it with our own experience and understanding of the music,
and write the lyrics that best expresses these feelings.
Basically we compose this way.
I write the lyrics.
This is Koichi, the other guitarist, that composes
and I ask him what he wants to express in each song
and I translate it into the lyrics, addind what I want to say.
New album "Birthday of 12 questions"
We want to present Fear From The Hate through this new album
We wrote 12 tracks in which we express what we want to say
they are like answers to these 12 questions,
expressing our feelings and thoughts.
That's for the "12 questions".
As for the "Birthday", we just wanted to use this word.
This album presents the answers by Fear From The Hate to these 12 questions.
Your activity
For now we want to move forward.
We want to inspire people
We always want to try new things
In that aim, we continue to write new songs
for people to hear about us
So we changed our way of expressing our music.
We play rock music and don't care about our genre
we just insert and mix elements of different genres that we want to play
we want to transmit our music itself, not its genre.
Your contribution to the victims of the earthquake
Hiro the bassist proposed this idea
and we all agreed at once
Yutaro : We are a band and need to play live
but some people may have thought that it's impudic
to play live after such a disaster.
But on the contrary, we want to offer entertainment to people that suffered.
Japanese Metal Scene
Indeed we think it's not well recognized yet in Japan
Contrary to foreign countries, metal, hardcore, screamo are not known to most people
so it's not familiar and difficult to like this music.
It'd be good if we could get rid of this wall.
Also it is not usual to go to a live house, for most people.
But when asking to foreigners,
they tell me it's pretty usual to go to lives to have fun.
I think that one of the reasons that metal is not recognized in Japan is due to cultural differences
Lidy : but recently more and more young people start bands,
playing extreme hardcore or screamo
Yutaro : with all these new bands, I think metalcore and hardcore will evolve into some new genre
Lives and tours
Lidy : Last year we played in the central part of Japan
Now we will play in Tohoku, Okinawa and the central part of Japan
Indeed the reaction of the public depends on the region
How is Tokyo ?
As we're from Tokyo, it's easy to play here
Comparatively, Kansai is not bad but
people in Nagoya have a particularly really good reaction
Some funny episode ?
A funny episode ?
Once we went by car to a live, and it was so hot that a baby would have died
it was maybe 50°C, and everyone looked like they were dying
and we went like this to the live house.
Yutaro : well I don't know if it's a really funny event (laugh)
The last words ...
Lidy : We are a band playing in Japan
we just realeased our new album "Birthday of 12 questions"
We would like people from over the world to listen to Fear From The Hate
and we would be very glad if more people hear about us
and think we are worth listening to.
