At this stage the wheel should be going at a slightly slower speed which will give you
more control and with our sponge we are going to be wetting the sponge and wetting the piece
from the top and having water flow down both sides equally and then keeping our left hand
together and our right hand together with our fingers we are going to be starting at
the bottom and going to the middle and then going to the top of the piece. We are going
to be pulling it into a cone shape for the first stage of making the cylinder. So again
we are working at the three o'clock position, our sponge is held back here in case we need
extra water and we are going to be gripping the piece with equal pressure with our fingers
starting bottom and going to the middle and then leaving the piece at the top. Periodically
we grip the piece with our left hand to support it and run the sponge over the top to compress
the clay a little bit making it stronger.
