I work with pregnant women just like you who also have gestational diabetes.
In this video I want to talk about another alternative therapy that can help you
lower your stress levels and in turn, lower your blood sugar.
It's a known fact that higher levels of stress can actually elevate your blood sugars
in addition to your blood pressure.
This alternative treatment is massage. Many pregnant women think they cannot get
a massage while they are pregnant.
Well that is not true. If you find a qualified massage therapist, you can safely get a massage.
And this is good to know, because can help relax your body, help relieve a lot of the
aches and pains you have during pregnancy and it can also
give you an overall sense of relaxation.
Which in turn will help lower your blood sugars.
Studies have shown that people with diabetes can lower their blood sugars 20 to 40 points
after getting a massage.
And that is really good news to hear, especially if you are still struggling.
Sometimes you may be changing your diet, you may be exercising but you still have
trouble with elevated blood sugar readings.
Well, it might be because of all that stress. And, women who have gestational diabetes tend
to worry a lot more. Because you want to make sure you are not
doing anything that can harm your baby during your pregnancy.
So consider massage therapy.
What's important, what I want to point out, before you run out and schedule an appointment
is you do need to do your homework.
You do need to find out who in your area is trained and qualified to give massages with
pregnant women. Because there are slightly different techniques
that they will do when you are pregnant.
