We will never have any memory of dying.
We were so patient
about our being,
noting down
numbers, days,
years and months,
hair, and the mouths we kiss,
and that moment of dying
we let pass without a note -
we leave it to others as memory,
or we leave it simply to water,
to water, to air, to time.
Nor do we even keep
the memory of being born
although to come into being was tumultuous and new;
and now you don’t remember a single detail
and haven’t kept even a trace
of your first light.
it’s well known that we are born.
“FORGOTTEN MORALITY”
If liberty means anything at all,
it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.
The question is not, can they reason?
Nor, can they talk? But, can they suffer?
They can feel fear, aggression, anger... They have emotions and feelings like us,
because they have a central nervous system such as ours and we share the same limbic system.
All vertebrates have a brain which is quite similar. Humans have different cerebral cortex, which we use to speak and to calculate.
Other animals can't talk and not calculate, but we don't suffer by means of the cortex.
We could say that they are great actors when it comes to conceal pain, probably it is just a good strategy not to demonstrate a sign of weakness.
Flor was a sheep that had been abandoned on a road, they told us she wasn’t able to stand up for many days,
we went to pick her up. Naturally, Flor was afraid of humans. And against the prediction of many vets who visited - Flor, she walked.
It was a paralytic sheep, hopeless, and either the people or the vets didn’t understand what we wanted to do with an animal called consumption.
Flor certainly could not have lived on mass stock, for what?
Every one of us thought that the sheep’s life was unfair and now she is completely recovered.
She is full of energy...! She is beautiful... She is pure bliss!
As a matter of fact these sheep have friends, others sheep are not friends, they don't share their children or go out together...
And they also have a different taste for males, they prefer some of them to others.
Sometimes we are not aware of how they identify members of a group, because we have not observed them carefully enough.
But they identify each other, which is logical in a social group; to know who is in the herd.
The moral depends on compassion. We consider it as morally that creatures are capable of suffering.
Grieve, is suffering with: we can only pity those who suffer.
And this can be done, among other reasons, because we have neurons, called mirror neurons,
which work when we experience things, like when we see others doing it.
So this allows us to empathy or sympathy with others.
And do not feel the same compassion for everyone else.
For example, a father or a mother obviously has more compassion for their children than the neighbor’s children.
And it would be a pathological case if it wasn’t like this…
Animals teach us to care and sacrifice is for the good of own children.
The moral here is even if I prefer my children to the neighbor’s children,it is not a reason to kick the shins of the neighbor's children.
But when we're young, society is telling you that the animal is not equal to the human being,
that it is lower than you, and that they can hurt you. Those children’s natural behavior is limited and they are doing what society dictates.
And society is putting consumerist bases, operating bases to other animals and supposed superiority to other species.
Then the child is growing, knowing he can play with humans, which are equal to him.
And those animals are inferior, sometimes obnoxious.
So humans, like other primates lived ultimately to the Neolithic revolution, which was about ten thousand years ago.
We decided that going around and looking for food was very complicated and it was more comfortable to cultivate.
Thus farming consisted of having captured animals to eat.
Chickens, for example, while some of them can run on the ground, digging the ground, play with each other...
These hens they live like prisoners, but in a relatively natural way.
While other hens are living in laying batteries, they are living in very narrow cages where they cannot even stretch their wings.
Their sensitive peaks are cut in, a very painful procedure, in order not to kill each other.
They constantly get artificial feed mixed with antibiotics.
Where they never see sunlight, where there is no soil to dig, but are on top of grid.
And sometimes animals that have been subjected to torture, poor nutrition, etc.
All these we eat, but not only one time, but 365 days, every year you live...
Something influences...
Have to be very blunt to say: look there are only vitamins, calories... No, there is something else.
If an animal has been tortured, I don’t know if you've seen videos of how they are killed...
Tortured, psychologically and physically with electrocutions, causes the muscle to contract, which and retains more fluids,
thus, it will be sold for higher costs because it is heavier.
There is a type of abusive livestock that puts animals in a sort of concentration camps, where they suffer a lot and we must to get done with it.
These are killing centers, where animals of different species undergo cruelties,
from their day of birth until they die a few months later.
All these operating mass stocks usually have no windows.
They are closed sites where no one can see the horror suffered by animals inside.
It doesn’t matter if we are talking about a pig or a chicken, the fact is that since their birth,
everything is happening in an unnatural way, their mothers are fertilized artificially,
are *** over and over every year without giving rest to their bodies...
We owe the animals not mercy but justice.
As long as there are slaughterhouses, there will be battlefields.
Andthere arestillplaces in the world, but notmany, because even themost remotesites,
even the bottomof the seasare being destroyedbytrawling, fishingnot only the fish,
but using a method that completely destroys the bottom of the seas.
Say that the beasts are cruel but you are so much more, because while they kill and eat out of necessity, what you do for vice.
Killing for so-called sport, for food, for one's country, for peace. There is not much difference in all this.
Justification is not the answer. There is only: do not kill.
How has our society changed with the invention of the fridge, since when have we eaten so much meat?
When I talk to my father, who worked in the field in his youth,
I say: you ate so much meat forty years ago? You were eating as much meat as now?
Not at all! and people were working in the field, hard, many hours, and what did they eat?
Well maybe 80 gr. of meat per day, and good one at home. The rest were legumes, cereals, vegetables, local produce,
natural products, in cooking ... Not like today we take our salad from one place to the other, refined products...
And meat, meat... Where does it all come from?
People have moved from a subsistence economy, the industrial revolution, people started to have money...
and the fridge: I can keep meat all week... and I have money to buy meat!
A formerly rich thing... Yes, I have money to buy meat, meat in the morning, noon and night!
If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.
If I take the decision to have a vegetarian diet, for what ever reason: emotional, ethical or health.
It's not simply to stop eating meat, but: I stopped eating this kind of food, because it must be replaced.
Because then we could do gaps. If you decide to be vegetarian tomorrow and,
you have been eating meat until today, do you know that you have a reserve of up to 5 years B12 vitamins in your body?
I'm sometimes asked, 'Why do you spend so much of your time and money talking about kindness to animals
when there is so much cruelty to men?' I answer: I am working at the roots
I think we have now the ability to generate models;
we don’t need animals to generate the molecules that we need to survive.
There is a neuroscience conference in Barcelona, a teamthatis trying to simulate how a brain works, a quite complexstructure.
There are so many beautiful things andfun, why shouldn’t I have an animal suffer for my amusement.
And that is what we must teach our children, we must take them to places where they can have fun in a healthy way,
not only healthy for them, but healthy for everyone.
There are a thousand ways to spend a great day in the field with our children and educate them
to show them that a fish swims freely and that there is no need to hunt this fish.
What sort of fun is death?
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
The answer to the question whether it is possible to stop this destruction, is yes.
But it is difficult, and we are not on a good way,
not least because there isn’t a clear awareness of the problems
and because the politicians are ignorant and stupid,
don’t dare to speak to people and say what the real problems and real solutions are,
because they fear that if they say something unpopular, they would lose votes.
So they prefer to talk about their ideologies and myths,
to analyze the reality of the world they live in and destroy.
"80% of the production of soybeans, corn and oats in the world are dedicated to feed the livestock industry.
Food that is dedicated to fatten these animals could help to feed everyone in the world.
Europe buys half of soybeans exported from the Amazon state of MatoGrosso,
where 90% of soybeans are cultivated in the rainforest.
It is also a major cause of deforestation (as in South America) and the degradation of soil and water.
Soybean-fed beef from the rainforests, can be found in supermarkets and fast food chains across Europe.
Producing a kilogram of chicken needs 3900 liters of water.
For comparison, it takes 900 liters of water for one kilogram of wheat or 500 liters of water for one kilogram of potatoes.
In Europe, over 50% of contaminated water is due to intensive farming of animals including fish from aquaculture.
Those responsible are mainly wastes, antibiotics, hormones, chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides used."
Cancer, cardiovascular illness... all these are diseases of excess, poor diet and excess.
Do we really need so much meat? No, we do not need it.
Should we criminalize meat? From my point of view, neither.
Every one shell does what he or she wants to do.
I mean, I'm going to warn you that an excess of meat is really going to hurt you.
And if you want to, you can live without meat;this is a myth that must be broken.
I have been consulting elite athletes who are vegetarians,
there are a couple of guys who do the Ironman Triathlon, and who increased their resistance through a change in diet.
We are what we eat, we have to eat in a healthy way but also ethically and it's possible!
We do not need to eat animals, like Gary, want to live;
they are owners of their own lives. Nobody has the right to end another animal’s life and to say how you should live.
I invite people who investigate via internet, who are in research institutes like Animal Equality, Equanimal, Defensa Animal...
and others who are responsible for uncovering what is happening in the industry of animal exploitation,
and find out for themselves what society takes care of hiding...
It’s well known that we were all born.
but if that abrupt translation
from not being to existing, to having hands,
to seeing, to having eyes,
to eating and weeping and overflowing
and loving and loving and suffering and suffering,
of that transition, that quivering
of an electric presence, raising up
one body more, like a living cup,
and of that woman left empty,
the mother who is left there in her blood
and her lacerated fullness,
and its end and its beginning, and disorder
nothing, nothing remains in your memory
of the savage sea which summoned up a wave
and plucked a shrouded apple from the tree.
The only thing you remember is your life.
