My name is John Sorkin, I’m a family law mediator - I’ve been a mediator since 1990.
I practice law in Weston, Florida with my wife who’s also an attorney and we practice
primarily family law. One of the areas of mediation that I practice in is private family
law mediation which is just simply mediation without lawyers being present. How I perform
that kind of mediation is to do it in several one-hour sessions approximately where people
have the opportunity to process information, have a fair and balanced process - they have
the opportunity to consult with attorneys at any time during the mediation process and
are in fact advised to consult with attorneys during the mediation process - and, in doing
so, we’re able to reach a resolution that’s fair, balanced, and it enables the people
to move on in their lives in a very positive manner. The benefits of family law mediation
is many. First, it’s less costly. Second, it’s private and confidential - whatever
happens in mediation stays in mediation. Third, it’s very efficient so that instead of spending
a lot of time and effort in litigating a case, if you can mediate to successful resolution
then, you’ve saved a lot of time and money. If you’re looking for a family law attorney,
I would seek someone with experience and knowledge. In our firm, we try and treat our clients
as members of the family so that they’re treated as if they were a sister or a brother
or other family member and giving them advice in telling them what decisions they need to
make and really making their case their own - not for the benefit of the firm, but for
their benefit is how we decide our cases. ??
