Let's talk about belly dance costuming. Hi, I'm Johanna Krynytzky from Hip Expressions
Belly Dance Studio. And I'm going to talk about how to make your own belly dancing bra.
What you want to do is end up with a product like this. Right? Now this is professional
costume that I did buy, but it's not, it's very easy to actually put something together
like this yourself. If you start with just a regular bra, you want to find something,
like this is too soft. You want a nice stiff cup in your bra. If you need to stiffen it
with by putting cups on the inside of it, you can do that too. And then what you want
to do is you want to make it not look like a bra. Right? So, number one you want to cover
it with some fancy fabric and then put bead work, sequins, coins, fringe, whatever you
want to put on over that, put on over that. The other thing you want to do is cut off
the straps that make it look like a bra. So what you want to do is cut off the straps
from the back here. You don't want to have this in the back. So if we cut off this strap
entirely and attach a different strap to it, to go around the back of your bra. And then
these straps, if they're stretchy you're going to want to replace them. So again cut them
off and put on some nice strong gross grain ribbon or something that's going to last.
And then you can have it come up and attach around the neck instead of coming down over
your shoulder like a bra would. Now you can also make them criss cross in back. There's
a couple different styles. You can look around, poke around see what kind of styles you like.
But ultimately you don't want it to look like you just took a bra and you covered it. So
cut off the straps, start with the bra bass, cover that and then add something nice and
fancy to make it look like a finished costume piece and not a bra. I'm Johanna Krynytzky
