Hi, I'm Stephen Monet, Manager of Environmental Planning
Initiatives with the City of Greater Sudbury, and this is EarthCare Minute.
The summer months provide an opportunity to grow your own fresh produce
even if you only have a small space to work with. Container gardening
can be done on a small patio or balcony. With a little bit of care, you can
produce small crops of vegetables and herbs to enjoy throughout the summer.
All it takes is a set of containers filled with potting soil,
and a sunny growing space outside. Plants in containers need more water than
plants in the garden.
Adding mulch will help with water retention as well as using non porous
containers like plastic or fiberglass pots.
Your plants also need to be fed on a regular basis.
Consider using organic fertilizers like fish emulsion,
bone meal or compost. Container gardening is another way to eat healthy,
locally grown food. EarthCare Minute.
One minute is all it takes. Brought to you by the City of Greater Sudbury.
