This video is part of a series of as to help instructors prepare for the upcoming semester
In the first video I will show you how to copy content from one canvas course to another
Before we get started I do want a cover some important information about Canvas courses. Each semester new course sections
are created in Datatel and for each section a new blank canvas course shell is created with student enrollments in Canvas.
The semester shells are named by course name, number and section followed by the semester year.
Semester course is to have a start date which is the first day of the semester or mod if you are teaching a
mod course. Students do not have access to the semester course until the first day
of the course.
So lets go ahead and login the Canvas and then in your course list select the course that you want copy content into
and you will notice in blank courses that the course setup checklist will pop up down here.
You can dismiss this when you're done using it just by clicking this X here. You can always
go back to home and click on the course setup checklist to bring it back
and we're actually going to select Import Content
and on the next page you want to use choose Copy from a Canvas Course
and then in your course drop down list you want to pick the course that you want to copy.
If you want to cherry pick your content you'll want to make sure that you select migration content
You can also adjust events and due dates on when you select this you can change
these dates for example this is a fall course and I want to move it to the spring semester
so all I have to do is click on these and selected day that I want to
make my start and end date
You can also substitute so for example if you know in this course that are copying the
everything was due on a Monday and you want to make that it Tuesday
you can select
the day that you wanna move all the events to
go head and click Import. This will begin the import process and
in this case since we did select to pick content we need to select the content
that will bring up this dialog box
What you will want to do is unchecked the items that you do not want to import so for example if I only wanted
to import quizzes I would need to uncheck all of these
items. So you would have to go through that process. I just going to go ahead and import everything so I will go ahead and import content
When the import process is done you will see a completed sign right here
and in this case my completed is orange and that shows me that there were some issues. I can actually click on the issues to see
what the issues were
If this is green that means everything imported correctly, if you see this in red that shows that the import failed,
If you have any problems with your import, you can always click the help button up here
and report the problem
or you can call Center at 234-5439.
