My name is Silvio Bonfilgio, I work in FIMI a company in Italy as part of the Barco group
and I am the project coordinator of OASIS.
[Interviewer] Could you shortly explain how the project OASIS has been evolving over the past four years?
One of the main characteristics of OASIS was the user centred approach
but first let me say that it is a project
that is devoted to the older population, to the senior citizen
and the goal is to enhance the quality of life through the technology.
Obviously, technology cannot solve all the problems but for sure can mitigate the effect of ageing
the decline both physical and cognitive of the people, and this is our goal.
What is also an added value of OASIS
is the capability of integrating through an interoperability that is mainly a semantic interoperability
through the integration of an Ontology
several services - already existing or newly developed services, services from a different service provider
In this way we can offer to our user an integrated platform
an integrated package of services that are interoperating each other
and each one is enriching the content, the value of the other service.
For example we have a service that is related to nutrition - the Nutritional advisor
by linking this service to Health monitoring - it is another service- or to the Activity coach
practically we can propose the diet, the nutritional regime to our people
to our elderly, according to this dynamic evolving profile of the user.
If, for example, he had a lot of activities in the morning
obviously we will give as a suggestion a certain diet
Vice versa, if he has some specific disease for example, he has problems with diabetes
or in the last days the glucose concentration went up
we will reduce, we will adapt the diet to the user.
This is really something new that we are bringing to the market
that we are offering to the users.
[Interviewer] How has the piloting been progressing in Milan? What have you been testing?
We tested close to Milano with several users
in total I would say not more than fifty users that were involved
and other users were also participating even if not directly involved
and we are continuing this pilot but we see that
this was really for me a surprise, the motivation, the interest,
the enthusiastic participation to this trial.
Really, people are interested in the technology.
Probably sometimes we feel that there is a kind of a block
between elderly and the technology but really they like technology
If they have problems, we have to help them in using the technology
But at least, according to my experience in Italy and in Milano
never I found really a block, never they refuse
At least, where interested they start to learn
then stop when I suppose they found it a little bit too difficult
but the approach was a positive approach
