The University of Memphis, proud to be a leader in sustainability practices, now offers the
Tiger Bike Share Program as another way to reduce our carbon footprint and promote a
healthy and active resource for students to get to and from work and classes. As another
component of the U of M's green fee initiative, the Tiger Bike Share Program affords students
the opportunity to check out a bicycle for recreational purposes or as an alternative
mode of transportation. It's a great way for students to save money and time, while showing
good stewardship towards the environment and also meeting the Memphis Healthy U program
component of including exercise to stay healthy. There are multiple benefits for people who
live near campus to commute to school on a bike rather than driving a car. It saves fuel,
provides an easier parking option, and is just plain healthy. Plus, riding is fun! You
can explore area vendors surrounding the campus including local restaurants and shops. You
can ride with friends either on outings or just to and from class. You can even enjoy
the Shelby Farms Greenway which provides a scenic and leisurely ride to Shelby Farms
Park. In addition, new bike lanes are being designated each year that open safer routes
to many parts of Memphis including Midtown and even Downtown. Plain and simple, bicycling
is good for you, good for the environment, and we at Tiger Bike look forward to helping
make your bike share experience exceptional and memorable.
