Sergeant David Woodford: We do RIDE 365 days a year but this is the festive season, we
know there's a lot of parties and that going on so this is what we're doing. We're
sending a message, awareness, education message out to the students. We want drivers
to be responsible, make the right decision and choose your ride. Whether it be a taxi,
whether it be public transit or have a designated driver but make the right decision.
Don't be involved in a collision and hurt yourself or somebody else out there.
Chris Whitaker: I think this is a great opportunity to show that as a learning
institution that's deeply connected with our community Humber definitely supports the
program where we know it's not good to drink and drive. As an institution of learning
we're trying to educate and raise awareness amongst our student population
who are the future leaders of tomorrow. We need to lead by example and show
that this is an important issue to us.
Nicholas Davenport: It's about raising awareness for drunk driving and letting people
know that we have to do these mandatory RIDE Checks for people because
it's about public safety. One of the things we learned in Police Foundations
is about how peer and environmental effects affect you. Some of those decisions
may lead to you drinking and driving or being in a situation where you pose a threat
to other people so I would say be very critical about who you choose to
associate yourself with and influence you.
Anne Leonard: We're very pleased to be a part of the event here to launch the campaign
at Humber College. RIDE is a primary deterrent for impaired drivers. If we don't
know that we might be caught then we might take a chance so it's very important
prevention strategy that police have been doing for decades and it's a great way
to save lives on our roads. Students, if they're on campus over the holidays,
they're probably at home for the holidays but wherever they are if you know, if they're
partying with their friends before they head out or once they get home there's all kinds of
strategies you can use. You can stay over, you can use a taxi guy app. I find that
younger people tend to use designated drivers. It's the most affordable
option for them and actually a designated driver is key to having fun because they
they will make sure you get home safely.
Man: My name is Scott Fox and this here is Kat Callahan. And we do the morning
show on Z103.5
Scott Fox: It's important to be at a place like Humber because a lot of these
students are our listeners and we care about our listeners. We want to make sure that
they arrive alive.
Kat Callahan: We want to remind you that if you are drinking this holiday season
have fun of course but make sure you do it responsibly.
Sergeant Doug Woodford: To all the students at Humber College and why we're here
we want them to be safe out there, we want them to be responsible when they're making
decisions, we want them to have a very festive holiday season and
you know be safe on the roads.
