You're watching HowToPlayAnySong.com. My Name is Joe Wiles with the Rock N' Roll Conservatory
and today we're taking a look at AC/DC's Back in Black.
It was from the album of the same name back in black that was released in 1980. The song
is a tribute to the band's former singer Bon Scott after Bryan Johnson replaced him after
a death. In this video we're going to take a look at
the introductory riff, the start out riff in the song and we're going to take a look
at the chorus riff. Let's take a look.
The introduction for Back in Black starts with what we call a three finger power chord.
It's an open E power chord. It's basically the open E string, 2nd fret of the A string
and the 2nd fret of the D string. Hit all those at the same time. You can actually use
one finger for those two parts. Sounds like this.
Then we're going to hit a D-5 chord which is an open D string, 2nd fret of the G and
3rd fret of the B. We're going to hit that three times, hit all those three. Then we're
going to hit an open A power chord. It's an open A string, 2nd fret D, 2nd fret G. Hit
it three times. That part sounds like this.
Then it answers with a really simple pentatonic riff starts on the 3rd fret of the high E
string and then you'll hit it open. You'll go to the 3rd fret of the E string then open,
2nd fret of the G but we're going to give it a bend and then we're going to pull our
finger off with out picking. That's called a pull off. That riff sounds like this. Altogether
the first riff and that little lead line afterward sound like this and so on.
Now on the fourth bar of this song they do another turnaround riff. That riff goes like
this. It starts on the 2nd fret of the A string, we're always going to go back to that one.
Then we're going to lay our ring finger down to the 4th fret of the E string, low E string
here. Go back to the 2nd fret of the A, pinky to the 5th fret of the low E string, back
to the 2nd fret of the A. Stretch your pinky all the way to the 6th fret of the low E string,
back to the 2nd fret of the A string.
Then all the way to the 7th fret of the low E string and slide it down and then we start
the riff over. Put together the third and fourth bar of Back in Black sounds like this,
like that and we repeat the first four bars of the song over and over again into the verse
even.
This is what the first four bars sounds like really slowly. Then we repeat
and so on. This is what that sounds like to speed one, two, one, two, three, four
and so on.
