Nando Scarpello, you're the goalkeeping coach
can you tell us how goalkeepers prepare for games during a tournament like Viareggio?
We do lots of things differently compared to a standard week because Viareggio is a prestigious tournament
and because you don't get much time between matches – we're playing every other day
So you adapt to the games you have,
and to the workload in particular.
The facilities aren't the same either. This isn't exactly Vinovo...
That's another area where we have to adapt
and obviously do some things slightly differently, but that's ok.
Everything's gone well so far and we coasted through the group stage.
Now we're heading into the knockout phase
where games can go to a penalty shootout
Do you prepare for that specifically
especially after we had penalties in the last 16 last year?
We always prepare as best we can
but we also hope that it doesn't come to penalties
that we can win the match before then.
But yes, of course we do our research.
We'll study everything
we can find on video
and get to know our opponents as well as possible
Let's leave the Viareggio Tournament for a moment
and talk about what you've done since the start of the season.
What can you tell us about your little team?
How are the keepers doing and how have they been coming along?
You know, I must say that the lads have taken a huge step forward.
I've noticed a great improvement, but so too have all the coaching staff and the directors
That's great but I'm happy for them more than anything
We've rotated a bit recently
because Branescu went down with chicken pox
so the lads have had to show they're ready for it
and whoever's come in for Branescu has proved to be up to the task.
