Catholic organizations are playing the devil's game of compromise. Next, on the American
Life League Report.
[Music Intro]
Everyone in the pro-life community knows that 1973 is the year that brought us the darkest
period in United States history. It's the year that Roe v. Wade opened the floodgates
to ***-for-hire, by decriminalizing abortion. But less known is that also in 1973, a deaf
nun in an obscure convent near the Japanese town of Akita received some extraordinary
messages.
These messages from the Blessed *** Mary urgently call for people to "repent" and "pray
very much." If we don't, the consequences for mankind are dire. She said that we face
a punishment greater than the deluge, where fire will fall from the sky and a great part
of humanity will be wiped out. The "devil will infiltrate into the Church" and "the
Church will be full of those who accept compromises."
Those are chilling words for the Catholic Church, especially when we examine what's
been happening in the Church's social justice circles.
For instance, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development has a history of funding organizations
that promote abortion, birth control and homosexual activism simply because these organizations
claim to help the poor.
But this kind of compromising doesn't happen in a vacuum. Here's what I mean.
Just recently, Texas state senator Wendy Davis made national headlines when she filibustered
a vote on a bill that would've restricted access to abortion. But it turns out that
she was able to do this because the current executive director for the Catholic Campaign
for Human Development helped her win an election against the pro-life incumbent.
Ralph McCloud gave her a ringing endorsement, saying, "Wendy Davis is a true leader, a hard
worker and an honest broker. Wendy will be sorely missed on the City Council, but her
can-do attitude will serve Tarrant County well in the legislature."
Davis' finance report from her August to November campaign in 2008 lists McCloud as her campaign
treasurer.
After the Catholic blog, Creative Minority Report, broke this story back in January of
2011, McCloud denied that he knew anything about Davis' pro-abortion position.
"I was unaware that [Davis] subsequently took a position on abortion that conflicted with
my own strong pro-life convictions. We had never discussed or worked on issues related
to protecting the unborn or abortion. At the time I gave my permission to serve the honorary
role as treasurer, Ms. Davis had taken no position on abortion nor accepted any campaign
funds."
Suppose we give McCloud the benefit of the doubt about what he did or didn't know regarding
Davis' position on abortion. The fact of the matter is that as a pro-life Catholic, he
had an obligation to find out, and he didn't. Apparently, he didn't even think to ask.
Because actions have consequences, McCloud is at least partially responsible for Davis'
filibuster against a bill restricting abortions.
But the CCHD isn't the only social justice organization that is way too comfortable with
the Culture of Death. Here's another example.
Catholic Charities USA recently got into hot water because it's a dues-paying member and
sits on the board of an organization that lobbied Congress to maintain funding for Planned
Parenthood.
And then Catholic Charities USA announced that dissident priest, Fr. Greg Boyle, will
be keynoting its own 2013 annual gathering.
Fr. Boyle has openly spoken against the Church's teachings on homosexual "marriage," the priestly
ordination for women, and the denial of Communion for Catholics married outside the Church.
And what's worse is that Catholic Charities was made aware of this by Life Site News,
and yet, Fr. Boyle is still listed as a keynote speaker.
But the moral compromise in Catholic Charities USA goes all the way to the top.
Meet Fr. Larry Snyder, the president of Catholic Charities USA. According to his bio on the
thier website, Fr. Snyder sits the board of trustees of the America's Promise Alliance.
But he's not just a trustee ... he also helps choose the winners of APA's annual 100 Best
Communities for Young People awards. Winners of this award receive $2,500 and a big boost
in their media campaigns.
The problem is that a large number of the organizations getting these awards win them
because of their work to promote birth control and homosexual activism. Here are just a few
Kalamazoo, Michigan was listed as a 100 best winner because of its Healthy Babies Healthy
Start program which provides classes on family planning, which is code for artificial birth
control.
Brighton, Colorado. It won, in part, due to its distribution of birth control to teenagers.
Houston/Harris County, Texas won because it gave a homosexual activist organization access
to teens in two high schools.
Bellevue, Washington got an award because of its Eastside Youth Services program that
produced a homosexual propaganda film that won "Best Local Film" at the Seattle Lesbian
and gay Film Festival.
There are dozens more like this, but the point is, a Catholic priest has no business compromising
Catholic principles by attaching the Catholic name of his $4.6 billion charity to an organization
that celebrates birth control and homosexual activism the way the America's Promise Alliance
does! And the thing is, the awards aren't the only problem.
The CEO of the America's Promise Alliance, spoke at a homosexual activist organization's
annual conference, where she called LGBT youth ...
[Kondracke] "a huge civil rights issue."
APA promoted its partner, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, GLSEN, and
its homosexuality activism campaign, Think Before You Speak.
APA lists birth control clinics on its list of Promise Places, and even hosts a teen pregnancy
prevention document intended to increase contraceptive use among teens.
There's no mistaking it ... the America's Promise Alliance is promoting homosexual activism
and birth control. And given Fr. Snyder's position in this group, it shouldn't be surprising
that in 2011, when news broke that Catholic Charities USA hired a homosexual lobbying
organization, Sister Jeanne Gramick said, "Catholic Charities in general have been the
most progressive wing of the church other than the nuns ... In some cases, Catholic
Charities USA has supported our events. I feel they personally are pro-gay but they
can't do this publicly."
There's a lot more to this, which is why we've uploaded a pdf document to our website detailing
more information. You can see it for yourself by clicking the link right over here.
As Our Lady warned, the Church is indeed full of those who accept compromise, and its not
limited to Ralph McCloud or Fr. Snyder. The sad fact is that moral compromise runs through
all levels of the Catholic social justice movement, setting the stage for the punishments
laid out in Our Lady's warnings. Thankfully, Our Lady also gives us the remedy, which is
prayer, especially the Rosary, and repentance.
For American Life League, I'm Michael Hichborn.
