Famous designers have been doing children's clothing since the beginning of the 20th century.
One of the best known Parisian couturiers, Madame Lovain, produced beautiful clothing
for young girls, her own daughter included, and her work in haute couture for women followed.
The usual pattern is that children's clothes are an offshoot of the designer's main business.
Baby Dior is one example. It was introduced in 1967 as its own boutique in Paris, and
the brand has had remarkable staying power. People who receive Baby Dior as gifts for
their little one consider themselves very lucky. Children's fashion is a growing market
for designer brands.
