Hello, I am going to outline two main components
of our Education and Training Program.
First, organizations, programs, or agencies that want to identify
what is needed for equal access to communication,
complete our Communication Access Assessment Tool.
Based on the results, we then provide training that is
custom-made to address areas of identified need.
We offer six workshops that teach about the
Deaf community’s Culture and Language,
and information about individuals who are hard of hearing.
For example, this may include information
about Deaf culture, and how American Sign Language
is different than English.
We provide information about the use of
technology for communication access,
which may include information about
light signalers, CART services, and interpreter services.
Information is also available regarding
state and federal laws that
mandate equal access to communication.
And a variety of trainings are provided to
improve access to medical, legal,
educational, and other programs,
with information that is geared to address
individual program accessibility needs.
Training is also provided to individuals
who are Deaf or hard of hearing that
enhances self-confidence for self-advocacy,
and self-empowerment to address
their own individual needs for equal access
to communication when the need arises.
