Arseny Roginsky, chairman, Memorial Society: As a practitioner I would say only one thing:
he was lucky to be charged with the second accusation
being under the first one.
Can you imagine: a man was in a prison camp
for many years facing a terrible humdrum,
clashes with the administration, mittens’ sewing,
nothing short of relations with other prisoners;
and herу we are now…
What I witnessed today was, from my point of view,
a full-blooded and, in general, intellectually brilliant job.
Having observed the situation from different positions –
the results of audits, and previous arbitration courts, etc. –
he actually said only one thing:
"Well, gentlemen, if everything is mine,
it looks like I have stolen from myself?
But this is nonsense! ".
That is, he was talking about the very basis
and essence of the absurdity of this accusation.
Generally speaking, his amazing, powerful,
and constantly working brains
have made a deep impression upon me;
and it causes some kind of joy and hope.
