Hi! My name is Dan and I am here with Expert Village. Today we are going to talk about
outer layers and what to look for. They look like standard pants and T-shirts but typically
when you are getting hiking pants you want to find something that is made out of a lightweight
nylon which tends to be more durable than cotton. These are pair of pants that can also
become shorts. You can zip off a leg; have a nice conversion into swim trunks or shorts
for hotter weather. You also want to look at the options like Velcro pockets, zippered
pockets and mesh pockets in case they get filled with water they will drain easier.
With the shirt you are looking for the same thing; light weight durable nylon. Again,
zippered pockets are not for back country travel so you can stash food or a candy bar
without fear of losing it. Having vents is nice to let sweat out. Having a button down
color is nice. You can adjust how much ventilation you are going to have. Some of them even have
a rolling system. You can even roll your sleeves up so that it doesn’t fall back down as
soon as you have finished rolling.
