I'll start by saying that hearing aids should be cleaned regularly. Most patients will receive with their hearing aids, cleaning tools and those cleaning tools are typically reviewed at your first appointment when you get your hearing aid. But sometimes you get home and you forget that hearing aids should be cleaned daily. When I say daily, I mean twice a day. When you take them out at night wax is wet and sticky and should be wiped off as well as brushed off with the brush that comes with your hearing aid cleaning kit. In the morning before you put the hearing aids in the waxes had an opportunity to dry overnight so what you want to do is now use the brush and pick again to to flake off any wax that may be like dirt that'll just come right off. You'll also typically get a cloth to help clean your your hearing aid. But if you don't get a cloth, a dry tissue will do the same thing. What you want to do is take the hearing aid and today I'll start with an In the Ear style and you want to make sure that when you use your cleaning tool you take a look at the brush that comes with it and brush over the front of the hearing aid where your microphone is. Thats that tiny little circle right there. You also wanna brush on the wax guard side where sound comes out of your hearing aid. If you're unable to get the wax out you may need to use the pic on the end of the instrument to also help clean it out. And again wiping off with the dry tissue will get off any residual wax that may be on your hearing aid. There's another type hearing aid called the Behind the Ear style that can be cleaned by removing the ear mold and washing it in warm soapy water and then reattaching to the electronics of the hearing aid, it's important that you never get this part wet but if you're not comfortable doing that or your Audiologist doesn't recommend it then what you wanna do is at least every day morning and night pick out any wax or debris that might accumulate in this hole here where the sound comes out and also brushing along the back of your instrument where the microphones are. That's a great way to clean the behind the ear style. I'll also review with you the In the Canal, I'm sorry, the Receiver in the Canal style as well as a Behind the Ear style of the RIT with an ear mold. And both of those can be cleaned with again, a brush that comes with your hearing aid and I'm just switching to a different brush just to show you the different types of brushes that you may have received with your hearing aid. And you wanna again brush the spine on a regular basis. Brush here and then again occasionally you may need the pick to pick out any wax or debris that accumulates on the end. Most importantly you wanna always wipe off any wax or debris. Again, morning and night or use your cloth and always store you're hearing aids with the battery door open at night. That's how you turn them off. I hope this information was helpful to you and I hope you're cleaning your hearing aids regularly. Thank you
