I'm Jim Leske, I'm the animal trainer expert with expertvillage.com. Today we are talking
about herding and border collies, specifically. Basically, I'm going to show you what a border
collie does when herding and then I'm going to show you the four basic moves. So basically,
what happens if we had our flock of sheep right here (or goats), what the farmer or
rancher would do is utilize one or more border collies (depending on how big that flock is)
either to bring them into the barn at night or to bring them away from a dangerous animal
that might be trying to stock the young lambs or calves or whatever the case may be. So
basically, the four commands are "to me," which means "bring the flock to me;" "away
me," which means "chase the flock away from something;" "left," obviously to the left
and "right" to the right. So basically, when the rancher would call out "right," the border
collie would sprint out right and then to me would be bringing them back to me and then
"to the right," to the right and then "away from me" they are taking them away. And so,
again, I'm Jim Leske and we'll be back with the specifics of "to the right."
