I'm Amelia Smith and on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to talk to you about how to do the
perfect blowout. Now some hair textures, a blow dryer and brush just doesn't cut it.
In those cases you may want to resort to the use of some other thermal products. Those
two products can be a curling iron or a flat iron. A curling iron is of course going to
add curl. Something this small will create a lot of curl. And then a flat iron will of
course add smoothness. Now even if you have fairly straight hair or fairly smooth hair,
you can still use the flat iron and use it and get a lot of advantages out of it. Just
make sure that you always use some type of thermal protectant whenever you're using any
type of heat product. All of the products I used on Lauren's hair today, had thermal
protectants in them. So again that's another reason why it's so important to use a styling
product. This little curl that's not cooperating here, that's the curl that I'm going to beat
into submission with my flat iron. So I'm just going to grab this hair and you always
want to make sure that you comb the hair first. You never want to flat iron over a knot. So
you comb that hair and you take your flat iron and just run it over. And what the flat
iron does is, it really compresses that hair shaft and it gives it a lot of shine and makes
it nice and smooth. Then you're going to want to comb it, and what that does, just like
the cool shot, it helps lock in that shape. So we gave her hair a lot of body but that
one spot wasn't quite cooperating. You can also curl with a flat iron, it doesn't give
quite the curl that a traditional curling iron gives, it gives a little bit more of
a square curl. But it's all in the wrist and you really don't want to use anything larger
than an inch. You go in, upsides down like this, and then you twist your wrist and pull
and should give a curl but didn't. Twist and pull. So as you can see it gives a nice more
relaxed curl. And that's done with a flat iron. So again you go into the hair, flip
your rest and then pull. Then use your finger and sort of shape it. Let it cool and that'll
be a way to add a little bit of curl to your style. But the flat iron is a versatile tool
and I think no woman should be without one.
