I am test-riding XJR1300 of YAMAHA.
Engine type is in-line 4 cylinders of air cooling, 4 strokes, 4 valves, DOHC.
Displacement volume is 1250 cc, the maximum output is 100 H.P. and maximum torque is 108 newton meter.
In my feeling, powerful torque is dominant.
Bore X strokes is 79 mm X 63.8 mm, and this is short stroke engine.
The charm of an air-cooled engine is beautiful modeling.
The water-cooled engine may have ribs similar to it.
However, they are meaningless if it compares with the functional beauty which only real cooling fins has.
It is said that a little large clearance of engine parts brings about the feeling of an air-cooled engine.
And this engine feels peculiar vibration in low rotation.
Visualized feeling of air-cooled engine is maintained.
Transmission has five gears and has chosen the 4th gear now.
Since red zone is not less than 9500 rpm, I will raise engine speed a while.
Now, the 3rd gear is chosen and it is 4500 rpm. Furthermore, I will gather engine speed.
The 2nd gear is chosen, speed is 90 km/h, and engine speed is 6000 rpm.
It is engine speed of maximum torque.
I am very pleasant to feel the powerful torque of a large-sized motorbike.
Furthermore, I will raise engine speed.
Now, it is 100 km/h at 7000 rpm.
Since the speed limit of Japan is low, trying is not easy, but this is a sporty engine.
Shortly after opening a throttle, it arrives at red zone.
It is stimulative exhaust sound.
It is sound like air cooling 4-cylinder engine.
It is sound which excites a rider.
Sound when throttle is closed is very good.
Although air cooling, this is a modern engine.
The double cradle frame is made of high tension steel of the diameter of 38.1 mm.
Rigidity is equal even if it compares with twin beam frame made from aluminum.
The diameter of inner tube of front fork is 41 mm.
Since it is full adjustable type, dampers and preload can be adjusted.
If nothing is done, the straight driving stability of this motorbike is excellent.
Movement performance when throttle is opened is good.
If it inputs just for a moment, lanes can be changed satisfactorily.
Rear suspension is made by OHLINS as YAMAHA Genuine parts.
Since it is full adjustable type, dampers and preload can be adjusted.
There are some persons who call it "YAMALINS" and banter.
However, it is a mistake to consider that performance is low simply.
Although I own other motorbikes with OHLINS, this suspension unit is almost equal.
When extended, feel is the high-class suspension itself.
This is a motorbike which can run a highway comfortably generally.
Although I reached the winding road, the road surface had frozen.
I gave up the video recording at winding road.
However, the trial ride containing winding road is completed.
I will comment also including the impression at that time.
Calipers of front and rear brakes are mono-block type.
Front brake is floating type double disk brake.
Rear brake is single disk brake.
The feel of front brake is very good.
It is controllable until grip of front tire reaches limit.
And braking force is perfect.
Although the rear brake is powerful, control just before tire locks is difficult.
You should abstain from the rough treatment of a brake pedal.
Although steering response is stable-oriented, it is also sporty.
The body goes in the direction of a look automatically.
Fear is not felt in cornering of winding road.
Engine loading position is not so low.
It seems that however, the center of gravity of the engine itself is low.
Although it is such a large motorbike like this, there is no awful feeling to a cornering and radical riding is possible.
These are the charm of XJR1300.
Fuel tank capacity is 21 liters.
Comfortable touring is possible, without worrying about gasoline residual quantity.
The large and flat seat is comfortable in prolonged riding.
An attractive engine, the body which is easy to treat, and high-class suspensions,
If these are taken into consideration, it is not cheap, but this is an inexpensive motorbike.
The fact that new motorbike with large displacement volume, air cooling, and in-line 4-cylinder engine can be purchased is more important than anything.
You should taste this engine by all means.
