Intermediate Western Calligraphy Tips - Tips on handmade books

This is a little tiny book, this is a miniature book which I made a while back. And the title
of this little book is called the Small World Gallery. And it can open in different ways.
Now the whole idea of making books is just to really, really big part of the feel of
calligraphy. So you have books being made in all sort of different ways and I want to
share that with you now. One of the ways that I make, I make a book every year, and so what
I do is everyday, every week day, I make an eight and a half by eleven design of some
kind, anything I feel like doing, It's kind of like a daily discipline. And then at the
end of the year, I choose my favorite fifty and I have them reduced and printed on to
five and a half by eight and a half pieces of paper. And I wind up creating what I call
a Christmas book, and so I've done this for the last twenty years. Here this is an important
statement, the fish is the last to discover water. So anyway, I have about twenty of these
books now. And it's just anything that I felt like doing. How poor are they that have not
patience. Guess what, calligraphy helps you with patience. Ok one other thing I want to
show you before we go on to the big, the big deal books ok, is at my mother's memorial
service I made a little book that everybody got called my mother's garden. And this I
did with, along with my printer who is just great. So I made this, I spent two days making
this you know, in my period of mourning, this is what I felt like doing. That's my mom.
My children and my mom. So anyway this is just one of the many possibilities for things
that you might do.
