Big EEL on Soft Plastic
I've just hiked into the bush again in the rain forrest here.
A couple of nice logs there, some rocks. I've just tied on a soft plastic with a weedless
hook.
I expect some better snags further down, but don't walk past a good snag.
I cast a few times, but some snags and some water holes just don't have any fish.
There is a massive Eel, he's about 5, 5 1/2 feet long, I'm just about to cross the river
here and he just swam right in front of me.
Just walked over this log here, through the mud and leaves, and there is, pretty sure
it's a Keel Back Snake, right in the middle there.
These snakes actually eat Cane Toads, they are good snakes. I won't disturb him. Amazing.
I came back to the same water hole about two hours later and this Eel was sitting right
here.
That's pretty close to him there, lets see if he will take that. Right on his nose.
YEP, Got him!! No, he ate that.....
Lets try that again.
I can't believe I left my head mount in the bush somewhere.
Alright, lets see if I can get him again.Yep that's right on him. He's just shied away
from it, No not going for it.
Oop, he's coming for it, here he comes,GOT HIM, yes he's on!
Aww, swimming backwards like an Eel, aww yeah. (Strain), yes he's about 5 foot long.
I don't normally get Eels on lures, and he's winning, swimming backwards, that's all he's
doing.
Aww, come on.
Aww. Here he goes, now he's twisting. Here he comes.
He is a big Eel.
Swim backwards again.
I don't know what I am going to do with this guy, i'll have to drag him up somewhere.
There he goes, twisting.
Doing the Eel death roll.
(reel spinning drag)
Come on Eel.
Actually I might have to, .... thats a big Eel.
I might have to go this way.
Good solid Eel.
I think he has his tail hooked on that rock there. There we go.
That is a big Eel!
Lets see if i can get him up at all.
I've got to get the hook out yet.
Swimming backwards again.
Come on Eel.
There he is.
He's a good 8 or 9 Kg I think.
Lets get him up here and get a look at him.
Ohh, he just broke the line....
Off he goes.
That was a good fight.
Little bit of fun, and he's just doing what he was doing before, just sitting on the bottom.
No harm no foul, but it would have been good to get him out on the rocks, have a good look
at him.
He's just resting here for a while, you can see the lure in his mouth still.
That won't last very long, once he gets his energy back he'll most likely just rub that
off, I'd say it'll be gone by tomorrow.
See you fish.......
