Hi folks, my name is Sergei Lemberg. I run Lemberg & Associates and our
website stopcollector.com. I want to talk to you today about five things you need
to know about debt harassment laws.
So thing number 1 about debt harassment laws: don't take it on the chain!
If a debt collector is harassing you, you have rights under the FDCPA
-the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. you may be able to recover from the
debt collector for illegal harassment.
Thing number 2: FDCPA - Fair Debt Collection Practices Act covers many
things that are governed by harassment law. It covers
harassment, abuse, misleading tactics, calling late in the day.
They're complicated so, if you have an issue, if you have a question, give us a call.
see if we help you. Thing number 3: debt collectors can't collect invalid
debts. Within five days of first contacting you they have to send you a
letter they have to tell you how much you owe, who their original creditors. If
you dispute that debt, they may not continue collecting until they validate
the debt. Thing number 4: You may be able to sue debt collector for
violations of debt harassment laws. You may be able to recover up to a thousand bucks, so
don't forget it. This isn't useless stuff, you may be entitled to money. And finally,
thing number 5: Remember there's a one-year statute of limitations on debt
collection harassment lawsuits.
Don't wait, don't sit there thinking that this claim will always be out there.
It's a short statute, it's a one-year, don't blow it. Give us a call, let us see if
we can help you with a debt collector harassment claim.
