Hi, this Martin Shervington and I'd like to show you had to really tailor
your Google Plus experience...
looking at the content that you
have in your streams.
Let's start by pressing the ‘Explore’
button. The ‘Explore’ button will take me to the ‘What's Hot and Recommended’ page.
As you can see, there's a slider at the top of the page it shows just how much here shows up
in your
home page.
Now, if I move the slider down, it's going to reduce the amount of content. And if i
put it up, it's going to increase it.
That's a pretty good setting for me, so I'm going to keep it there.
Now the same principle will apply
if I go to my
setup circles.
So I have a ‘friend’ circle here. If I click on ‘friends’
I might decide never to miss a post.
I can see Linda doing something out here. So I'm going to slide this up to
notify
that will send me a notification up here
every time a new post comes out
for the people
in that specific circle.
Alternatively I can adjust just to show how much
content shows up
in that home stream.
So you will choose this and tailor this for each of the circles that you've got.
If for some reason I don't want to see a post anymore
I can effectively remove it from the stream.
So I click here and I go to mute this post
and watch what happens.
It disappears.
so that's another way of you not having to receive notifications
when people are making comments on posts that you've been included in as well.
Next I'd like to have a look at Larry Fournillier and use this profile
as an example of how you can tailor content. Now, Larry's a fantastic
Chef. He's Caribbean chef on Google Plus Known as a Trinidaddy and he's a great
friend
and as you see a little
tick next to his name means that he's ‘verified’. So you know what that means now.
And if I come across to his the circles that he's included in, you see he's included in
the Commoogling circle already.
But I know he likes Seinfeld.
I'm going to put him in that one.
And I'm very good friends so I'm going to put him in the friends circle.
But also I know that he's a great chef. So I'm going to put him down as a chef
and we're going to create
a circle for him there and more chefs and as I go.
Next let's look at George Sepich, he's the captain of the
Pirates Pub on a Friday night and another
good friend. So I'm going to add him into the ‘friend’ circle. I know he likes Seinfeld as well. So I can do that when I look at people's profiles.
But let's say something's happened and I don't want to hear it from George
anymore. I can actually mute George by clicking this button.
And if you have a really bad falling out with people and you just don't want contact anymore
then you can block them as well. I don't want to do that with George because he's a great guy.
If there's something that's on somebody's profile that you think is inappropriate,
then you can report the profile.
Next, let's click on settings. Now, these are your settings.
So you will be tailoring your experience further.
By changing them.
So as you can see here, you can decide who can interact with you on you and your posts.
And at the moment this account is set as ‘extended circles’.
If I wanted to restrict it, I would go to my circles or can customize it
by choosing specifically who can get in touch.
The same principles apply with who can comment
and the same with who can start the messenger conversation.
And the ‘Gchat’ is something that you can customize little
farther as well but we won't do that quite yet.
Also you can scroll down and see what other
settings you might like to change.
This is Martin Shervington. I hope you found that useful. And please subscribe to
my YouTube channel for a lot more hints, tips and tricks over the coming months. Many
thanks.
