The Youth Stewardship Program is a free program for students 2nd grade through 12th grade
in San Francisco. We do it one in class, kind of introduce them to our program and then
we take them out up to 5 field trips and each field trip has a different theme with educational
activities and we also do habitat restoration service learning.
It's important for our students to get to know whats in their backyard. We're working
with parks that are right in the neighborhood or that they're going to school in, so it's
really cool that they can just walk to a park, nearby and really get to know that park.
We're part of this earth and I think nowadays there's a disconnection to nature and how
we connect and I think it's important for students to develop a better sense of themselves
in the natural areas and it helps them, overall in many areas, it helps them improve their
concentration levels in school and build better social dynamics with different people and
I feel it creates a more well rounded person and continues this ongoing connection with
nature as they go on.
