With the downturn of the economy a lot of people
don't have jobs or have greatly reduced hours
but they still have the skills. Those aren't gone.
But, people feel paralyzed because without money,
what can I do?
Once the economy collapses again, you know,
we really have to take a look at how we're doing things
and find another way to make it work.
Time banking is, frankly, a weapon
to enable people to stop saying that economy can define
who are throw away people and who are useful people.
It empowers me and other people with an alternative means
to get things done.
This sort of builds a community and encourages them
to exchange things.
Alternative currency systems are created
to create that sort of trust. To foster it.
To build and strengthen community.
Time banking is really about repairing and recreating
that network of support.
I see it as being part of the solution and it's gratifying.
It took a lot of people to pull it together and
provide their neighborliness to just trying something new.
A new way of trading. A new way of building business.
This whole kind of secret almost that's powering LA.
It's this big shared venture with the community.
And everyone has ownership and there's new projects
sprouting, literally, every week.
Well, I think it's time to get up on the radar screen and say,
hey, this is a different kind of world.
It's possible, and it's ours.
So, let's grab it!
