Good Morning, Good Afternoon
and Good Evening Everybody!
[music starts]
Today I want to discuss some things with you about this book.
Me. You. Let's talk.
I have wanted to read this book for a long time.
Even when the movie was announced,
I still wanted to read the book first.
How did I feel about it?
Well.
Before reading this book, I was very excited.
I first heard about this book-
it was actually because of the movie.
When "Me Before You" came out...
I think a couple of months ago?
And I saw the previews, and I thought that
it would be a great love story.
And then I heard that is was actually a book.
I wanted to watch the movie
for a while but
actually reading the book
I always knew- you know,
Books usually are better.
I mean, maybe not all the time.
but from my experience
the books and movie-
movie adaptations
of a book
usually aren't as good.
They always miss details.
Still, I was surprised.
The book was so good.
So good.
Like, really good.
I finished reading the book in about a day and a half.
The author left me wanting more [to read].
No, that's not quite true.
The only thing that I really had
a complaint about
Is that-
Is this turtle-back.
The type of quality of this book [cover].
I don't usually
see turtle-backs that often.
Unless they're old books or
I don't know.
Apparently this book isn't that old.
It's a 2012.
Well, it was published in 2012.
But I really don't like turtle-backs because
they're hard to stay open.
You know, like,
if I try to keep it open
I try and open it
It always flips close.
You know, it's not something
conducive for my writing-
for my READING style.
Not writing style.
It's not conducive for my reading style.
But it's not the author's fault.
So, I guess that's not
really a complaint for the author, Jojo
I'm sorry Jojo.
It has nothing to do with you.
Maybe it does.
Maybe you prefer it this way.
But I
did not.
I don't like it.
Maybe it's the publisher's fault.
So one critique that I have
of the book
is that
the main character, Louise,
she meets this guy
And, you know, she gives herself-
She has six months
to complete this task.
But from the very beginning
I already knew, like,
what
was gonna happen would happen.
There were a few things that still
surprised me, obviously,
which is what kept me
hooked on the book.
But surprisingly,
like, I kind of had
sort of an idea that maybe
that certain things would happen.
Because I really felt
for
I really felt for that character
that she worked with.
For Will. Like I really
I really felt bad for him.
So I can kind of understand
why
how the book ended- ended that way.
Even though, like,
I knew- I kind of figured
what would happen would happen.
I still really liked the story.
It took me- like I said- like a day and a half
to read it.
And
I guess it was because
the characters itself were-
I was invested in them.
I love Louise and her
her sense of being, her sense of person.
Will and his wittiness
because you kind of got a glimpse
of who he was before
and who he is now.
He' s crippled now.
He's paralyzed.
He can't be the same person.
His life isn't as fully fulfilled.
But, like the other characters,
the sub-characters, you know,
Louise's family
Will's family
I think- I don't know
if she really shows that she has friends.
But how his friends
react to after his situation
compared to maybe like
how they were in his life before.
I really found interesting how
they all reacted.
I wasn't- I was not disappointed.
Especially towards the end.
I would say.
The girl Louise
shows a couple of characteristics.
1)...
1) to be very energetic/busy
2) to be very creative
3) to talk a lot
She's pretty cool.
She's older than me in this story
This character.
But her life is kind of at a stand still.
by the time she starts-
well no, when she starts [in] this story.
So going through the story
you kind of see a transformation
within her
and I really enjoyed
the progression of who she was
in the beginning to
how she was at the end.
You know, you kind of get glimpses of
of her own history because-
Despite the fact that she likes to talk, and
even though most of the story is in her perspective
There is a reason why she is the way she is.
And so, I thought that
was really interesting.
I did.
Probably won't
see the movie because
I like how the characters
are in my head, how I see them,
and how
things play out.
And I really don't want to see
it
the Directors, or Producers, or whoever,
I don't know how it all works
who all
how they all create the story,
but I really don't want to see
how they decide to do it
because I feel like
their version will just
not make me happy.
[laughs]
And I'm just like, "ehh."
I will read the next book.
So it's, "Me After You."
I believe by Jojo Moyes.
By J-o-j-o Moyes.
or Moyes [pronounces it differently].
My name is Caira Coleman
and I will see you next video.
Bye!
