Hello my name is Lilly and I’m a volunteer for the Royal London Society of Blind. I’ve
lived in the borough for 27 years. I like taking my son out swimming at Mile End Leisure
Centre. And sometimes I like bike-riding in Mile End Park. I like visiting Victoria Park-
especially when there’s fireworks... fireworks display and funfair. What I enjoy most is
coming and visiting the people who are blind and basically just talking to them, and just
giving them that extra support that they need. And especially talking about the problems
they’re going through and just giving my own knowledge back to them and making them
more powerful and stronger in their life. The changes I’ve seen are that they are
more people, more houses, less garden areas. But I think it is a great, great thing for
London for the Olympics to be here. I think it would be a very good thing for everybody-
especially as London is a very diverse, multi-cultural place. So I think it will bring people together
and make them more happy. I’m not planning to go to the Olympics sorry to say. But if
I could go if I won a ticket, I would definitely go and visit any of the sporting events- I
don’t mind whichever. I don’t really watch sports on TV but I’m interested in football,
and sometimes I just want to watch the players- the good-looking ones! A lot of people inspire
me such as people who are mainly in hospital and they battle certain diseases and come
through it. And those are my inspirational people. Once the Games have taken place my
hopes and aspiration is that I would like the London borough to be more friendly. I
would like more happier people on the streets and just everyone get together and have festivals
and events.
