My husband Mark and I established Henry's Drive in 1998
and being third generation pastoralists gave us that
hands on approach to crafting a new family tradition
of fine wine making.
Henry's Drive is designed around the postal theme
inspired by the proprietor of the
19th century mail coach that used to
drive through our property...and the 5271?...
its our post code.
Padthaway is located in the heart of the limestone coast
which is in the south east of South Australia.
It's an area which is rich in heritage and culture,
and provides a perfect backdrop for some time away
with friends enjoying world class wines
and relaxing drives.
Free draining limestone soil much of which is
overlain by red loamy clay known as Terra Rossa,
an abundant water supply and mild yet sunny weather
make Padthaway ideal for viticulture.
The wines show great intensity,
minerality and beautiful structure.
All of our fruit is estate grown, all of our wines are
hand crafted by us, giving us full control
over yields and quality.
We really concentrate on producing wines that reflect
the region of Padthaway.
Pillar Box Red is a really nice blend of
Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot.
It has a lovely dark colour with a vibrant purple hue.
We use a mixutre of French and American oak
but leave a portion of the wine completely unoaked
to allow the fruit and the terroir to be expressed...
and the Pillar Box is named after
the classic Australian mailbox
and the flavours you'll see in the wine
are fresh blackcurrant, blueberries
right through to some lovely integrated spicy oak.
Pillar Box Red matches perfectly with Australian lamb
or any red meat for that matter.
It's simply a great red.
